The essential role of gaming in times of crisis

Gaming’s reputation has been both celebrated and tarnished in the past couple decades. It has won countless awards and has impacted the lives of large communities of gamers, but at the same time the mainstream media has tried to magnify a few negative situations and have tried to label it as a medical disorder, until now. With the world in turmoil because of an epidemic crisis, people and families are looking for something to relieve them of their worries and stress, and gaming is here to help!

Video games have been a fun pastime or hobby for many gamers, but now more than ever it is becoming an essential escapism and great way to unite families and friends. With all the negative news and losses, it is necessary to embark on a grand adventure. Some of the best worlds to get lost in are Hyrule of Legend Of Zelda, The world of The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the great city of Midgar in Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

In times like these we are looking for optimism, hope, and unity, and we can first and foremost find that in the King of glory, the prince of peace, the Lord Jesus Christ, but we can also find a fun diversion that has those traits in gaming that can be shared with friends and family. Many have a misconception that gaming is mostly violent, gross, vulgar, and while many are, there are also a lot that aren’t. For example, some excellent games that are family friendly are Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Ratchet & Clank, Animal Crossing, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

These virtual adventures can be imaginative, inspiring, hopeful and most importantly fun. Super Mario games are filled with imaginative worlds that make you feel like a kid again, Little Big Planet and Dreams inspire you to create your own adventures, and The Legend of Zelda gives you the courage to confront any hardships you encounter. You can find inspiration, feel hopeful and be educated with these games even in these troubling times.

The gaming community is now more varied than ever, it’s not only men or teenagers, but also women, kids and people of all ages. This special interactive medium has reached and touched all sorts of people in meaningful ways. For instance, a game that by the outside seems like a violent, dark game like the latest ”god of war” has helped father/son relationships be restored because underneath it’s rough exterior it has an emotional story about the bond of a father and his son. You can find a deep connection to a game that can help you in unexpected ways.

Meanwhile social gatherings and events such as theaters, concerts, and sports events are not possible for the time being, gaming can fill that void. Interested in a movie thriller experience? Then try out “Detroit“ on PS4 or PC, do u want the next Marvel superhero movie event? Check out Spiderman on PS4. Wanna have a mini concert or party in your own home? There’s plenty of music party games, just try to keep it a small gathering of 10 or less please.

In these times of crisis gaming has become more essential than ever. You can connect with others by visiting each other’s islands and sharing ideas in Animal Crossing or relive your childhood experience in a fresh new way in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Whether you want to find something for the family, wanna just have a good time, or wanna go on an amazing adventure, there’s something for everyone to help pass the time and be safe at home. Where will your next experience or great adventure take you?
