Is gaming mainly for kids and teens or is it also for adults and all ages?

Today May 22nd I turned 32 years old, and I consider myself as much of a gamer as I was in my childhood and perhaps even more. There is a misconception in the minds of many non gamers that games are a kids thing, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Each era of gaming has introduced a new generation of gamers.

In the NES era you wouldn’t be wrong to think that way because gaming was very simple and cartoony. But as technology advanced and gaming was taken more seriously, creative minds and geniuses took gaming beyond our wildest dreams. They became cinematic adventures, gut wrenching and heartbreaking experiences, and emotional journeys. The level of depth in the stories and the groundbreaking tech has made it the main hobby and entertainment destination for millions of adults.

In the early era of gaming, the target audience was mainly kids, but now it’s also young adults. Eventhough gaming has matured in tone and content, the core of it has not changed and that is to have “fun”! That is what makes companies like Nintendo so special that eventhough their games are very childlike they are very fun and imaginative. Gaming has now more than ever something for all ages to enjoy.

The gaming community is not limited to one demographic, it doesn’t target one specific race or gender or age group anymore. It is now global, it appeals to almost any genre or interest you might have. Both guys and girls can enjoy gaming as there are strong female heroes alongside male heroes. There’s esports for the competitive and solo story driven experiences. There’s never been a better time to be a gamer regardless of age.

In conclusion, is gaming only for kids? No it is not. Is it only for adults? Nope, it‘s not either. Does it target only a specific gender? Not anymore, guys and girls have great experiences they can enjoy. Whether you’re a kid wanting to have a quick session of fun, a competitor wanting to reach the top of the leaderboards, or looking for a deep cinematic experience there’s a game for you. Be proud to be a gamer no matter you’re age because the gaming industry is young and it’s only gonna get better in technology and fun!
